How an Exterior Door Helps Your Home Security

Value Windows and Doors :: Custom Made Exterior Doors in the GTAWe’re very serious when it comes to manufacturing doors that not only look good but also enhance the security of your home. There’s nothing more important to us than helping you protect your family and possessions.

Most thieves break into a home through the front door because they know that most front doors are quite poorly made. Especially when it comes to double-doors where the swinging door is held closed by the fixed door – the fixed door is usually held into place by two thin metal pins at the top and bottom and unfortunately these pins can be snapped by a reasonably hard jolt. Also, the swinging door is usually only secured to the fixed door by a single deadbolt and can easily be compromised.

When we started manufacturing our own doors, we insisted on the best security features available. We use a rugged heavy duty locking mechanism that secures into the door frame using 1/2″ steel rod, we use the strongest composite materials in building ultra-strong frames, and our locking mechanisms hook in at six different places along the length of the door.

We don’t compromise when it comes to the security of our doors and you shouldn’t either! Demand the best in both appearances and security when replacing your exterior doors, demand doors from Value Windows & Doors!

Things You Should Consider When Replacing Your Exterior Doors

Here are a few things you should think about when replacing any of the exterior doors in your home.

Doors Have Energy Ratings, Too

Just like windows, exterior doors play an important role in the energy efficiency of your home and can play a significant factor in the heating and cooling costs of your home.

While they only account for a small portion of the surface area of your home, a lot of heat or cooling can be lost through a door when it is opened. While you can’t really avoid opening doors as you come and go, the main source of heating or cooling loss with exterior doors is through leaks. Make sure you get a door where the slab (the panel of the door) is correctly fitted into the frame, as little room as possible for air leakage.

Also, consider which materials to use when thinking about which exterior door is right for you. Glass, steel and fiberglass – all common materials used in the manufacture of exterior doors – have different insulation values and will affect the overall insulation properties of the door.

Installation Matters!

Just like windows, doors must be installed properly, too! Even the best door won’t perform well if it isn’t installed and sealed properly.

Don’t let just anyone install your new exterior door. Our installation team is lead by one of our family and someone who is a master cabinet maker and carpenter. We’ll make sure that your new door is installed properly, the first time, and on time!

Doors Affect Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Having a great looking front door is good for your pride, but it can also be great for your bank account if you’re thinking of selling your home at some point in the future.

The front door is proven to have a significant affect on how people value a home – a bold and beautiful front door can instantly make a home more sellable than a cheap, less impressive, or old front door that is showing it’s age.
